Knuckles Mountain Range Hiking and Trekking Day Tour From City of Kandy

The Knuckles Mountain Range, stretching across the districts of Matale and Kandy in central Sri Lanka, is one of the island’s most treasured natural landscapes. Its unique formation of folds and peaks resembles the knuckles of a clenched fist—a feature that inspired British surveyors to name it “Knuckles.” Locals, however, have long called it Dumbara Kanduvetiya, meaning mist-laden mountain range.

Covering nearly 21,000 hectares, the Knuckles Mountain Forest Range forms part of the Central Highlands World Heritage Site (declared in 2010). Isolated by the Mahaweli River valley to the south and east, and the Matale valley to the west, it remains a distinct and pristine ecosystem rich in biodiversity, waterfalls, cloud forests, and traditional village life.

With Eco Tours Kandy, this day tour of hiking and trekking through the Knuckles will give you the rare opportunity to immerse yourself in this remarkable natural heritage—exploring breathtaking scenery, unique wildlife, and the cultural heart of Sri Lanka.
